【本報訊】亞利桑那州聯邦眾議員Greg Stanton於9月10日舉行社區交流活動，鳳凰城市長（Phoenix Mayor）Kate Gallego應邀擔任特別嘉賓。現場近30名社區、商界及各界人士出席。譚華參茸行（Tan Hua Inc.）邀請多位亞裔社區人士參加，包括僑聯主席王瑞瑾、鳳城酒家負責人何恭柏、永利博士地產李宗富先生、藝柳白先生及中文媒體代表等，共同關注亞州發展及社區議題。

Gallego首先致辭，肯定Stanton長期以來與鳳凰城市政府的合作。她特別談到亞利桑那州面對的水資源挑戰，指出Stanton了解科羅拉多河（Colorado River）問題的重要性，並積極在聯邦層面為地方爭取支持。鳳凰城此前獲得1.79億美元聯邦資金，用於North Gateway先進水淨化設施的設計及建設，以增加再生水利用、提升城市長期供水韌性。

Gallego同時提到鳳凰城天港國際機場（Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport）的持續發展及國際航線拓展。她表示，Stanton不僅了解亚利桑那州的實際需要，也長期在水資源、交通、航空及重大基礎建設方面與地方政府合作。

Stanton隨後發言，肯定Gallego帶領鳳凰城持續推動經濟發展，並特別提到台積電（TSMC）等半導體產業在亞州的重大投資。他表示，亞利桑那州正快速成長，要維持經濟競爭力，水資源與基礎建設將是關鍵。

談及水資源時，Stanton指出，面對長期乾旱及科羅拉多河供水壓力，亚利桑那州需要進一步發展先進水淨化技術，提高水資源循環再利用，以減少對科羅拉多河的依賴。他並表示，在AI、資料中心等產業快速發展的同時，也必須兼顧水資源及能源使用。

交通方面，Stanton強調道路、高速公路、輕軌、公共交通及航空建設缺一不可，認為快速成長的亚利桑那州必須持續投資新建設，同時更新老舊基礎設施。

在隨後的問答交流中，話題延伸至醫療科研、移民、關稅及家庭照護等議題。Stanton強調國家衛生研究院（NIH）、大學及基礎科研對美國醫療創新和國際競爭力的重要性；談及移民時，他表示，美國人口日益老齡化，移民同時也是經濟競爭力的一部分，國會應尋求跨黨派合作，推動更全面及現代化的移民制度改革。

活動讓亞裔社區人士有機會近距離聽取地方及聯邦民選官員對亚利桑那州重要議題的看法，也進一步增進亞裔社區與主流社會及民選官員之間的溝通與聯繫。

U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton held a community meet and greet on September 10, with Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego attending as a special guest. Nearly 30 community and business leaders attended the event.

Fanny, the owner of Tan Hua Inc., invited several members of the local Asian American community to attend, including Wendy Karahalios, president of the Chinese United Association of Greater Phoenix, Phoenix Palace Restaurant owner Gongbo He, Zongfu Li of Dr Win Realty, Liu Bai Yi, and representatives from the Chinese media. The group joined other guests to hear about issues affecting Arizona and the local community.

Gallego opened the event by recognizing Stanton’s longtime partnership with the City of Phoenix. She spoke about Arizona’s water challenges and said Stanton understands the importance of protecting the Colorado River and securing federal support for the region. Phoenix previously received $179 million in federal funding for the design and construction of the North Gateway Advanced Water Purification Facility, which will help expand water reuse and strengthen the city’s long term water supply.

Gallego also talked about the continued growth of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and the expansion of international air service. She said Stanton understands Arizona’s needs and has worked closely with local leaders on water, transportation, aviation, and major infrastructure projects.

Stanton then spoke about Phoenix’s continued economic growth under Gallego’s leadership. He highlighted major investments in Arizona’s semiconductor industry, including TSMC. He said Arizona is growing quickly and that water and infrastructure will be critical to maintaining the state’s economic competitiveness.

On water issues, Stanton said Arizona needs to expand advanced water purification and recycling as drought and pressure on the Colorado River continue. He also said that as industries such as AI and data centers grow, Arizona must pay close attention to their impact on water and energy resources.

Stanton also emphasized the importance of continued investment in roads, highways, light rail, public transportation, and aviation. He said a fast growing state like Arizona needs both new infrastructure and improvements to existing systems.

During the Q&A session, the discussion covered medical research, immigration, tariffs, and support for families and caregivers. Stanton stressed the importance of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), universities, and scientific research in keeping the United States competitive in medical innovation.

On immigration, Stanton said the United States has an aging population and that immigration also plays an important role in the country’s economic competitiveness. He said Congress should work across party lines toward a more comprehensive and modern immigration system.

The event gave members of the Asian community an opportunity to hear directly from local and federal elected officials about important issues facing Arizona, while also strengthening communication between the Asian American community and elected leaders.
